IN LOVING MEMORY TIFFANY MAULDIN, 34, KILLED IN FATAL HEAD-ON CRASH ON U.S. HIGHWAY 52

The Stanly County community is mourning the tragic loss of 34-year-old Tiffany Mauldin following a fatal head-on collision late Wednesday night on U.S. Highway 52.

According to authorities, emergency personnel were dispatched at approximately 11 p.m. on May 27, 2026, to a serious traffic crash near the Northeast Connector involving two vehicles traveling in opposite directions. First responders arrived to find significant damage from a violent head-on collision that left one driver dead and another seriously injured.

Investigators say preliminary findings indicate that a vehicle traveling northbound on U.S. Highway 52 crossed over the center line and collided head-on with a southbound vehicle. The impact caused catastrophic damage to both vehicles and prompted a large emergency response to the scene.

Officials later identified the deceased driver as Tiffany Mauldin, 34, of Stanly County. Despite efforts by emergency responders, Mauldin was pronounced deceased at the scene due to the severity of her injuries. Her sudden passing has left family, friends, and members of the community grieving a heartbreaking and unexpected loss.

The driver of the southbound vehicle sustained serious injuries in the collision and was transported to a nearby hospital for emergency medical treatment. Authorities have not released additional details regarding that individual’s condition.

Law enforcement officers with the Albemarle Police Department remained at the scene for several hours as investigators documented evidence, examined vehicle damage, and worked to reconstruct the events leading up to the crash. Traffic along portions of U.S. Highway 52 was impacted while crews cleared debris and secured the area.

At this time, investigators have not released additional information regarding possible contributing factors in the crash. Authorities continue to examine the circumstances surrounding why the northbound vehicle crossed the center line before the fatal impact occurred.
