In Loving Memory of Jodi Tianna Bunn

With profound sadness and heavy hearts, we remember and honor the life of Jodi Tianna Bunn, whose tragic and untimely passing has left her family, friends, and the Birdtail Sioux Dakota Nation community grieving an unimaginable loss.

At just 22 years old, Jodi’s life was taken far too soon in a devastating hit-and-run incident that has shaken her community and touched the hearts of many across Manitoba. While authorities continue their investigation and legal proceedings move forward, those who knew and loved Jodi are focused on remembering the beautiful person she was and the lasting impact she made during her life.

On the evening of May 29, 2026, Manitoba First Nations Police Service officers responded to reports of a vehicle being driven recklessly through Birdtail Sioux First Nation. A short time later, police received reports that a pedestrian had been struck on a roadway and suffered critical injuries. When officers arrived, they found Jodi lying on the road with severe injuries consistent with being struck by a motor vehicle.

First responders immediately began lifesaving efforts and continued providing emergency care until paramedics arrived. Despite their determined efforts to save her, Jodi was tragically pronounced deceased at the scene due to the severity of her injuries.

The loss of Jodi has left an immense void in the lives of everyone who knew her. She was more than a victim of a tragic incident—she was a daughter, a family member, a friend, and a cherished member of her community. She was someone with dreams, goals, and a future that should have stretched far beyond her 22 years.

Those closest to Jodi will remember her for the love she shared, the kindness she showed, and the connections she built with those around her. Every life leaves a mark on the world, and Jodi’s mark was made through the relationships she nurtured and the memories she created with the people fortunate enough to know her.

The pain of losing someone so young is difficult to put into words. Families spend years building memories and dreaming of the future, never expecting that those plans can be altered in an instant. Jodi’s loved ones are now left carrying both the grief of her absence and the precious memories of her life.

As news of her passing spread, many throughout the community expressed sorrow, support, and condolences. In moments of tragedy, communities often come together to support one another, and Birdtail Sioux Dakota Nation has united in mourning the loss of one of its own.

While an arrest has been made and charges have been laid in connection with the incident, no legal outcome can replace a life that has been lost. The court process may provide answers and accountability, but it cannot restore the laughter, presence, and future that Jodi’s family has been forced to say goodbye to far too soon.

Today, we remember Jodi not for the circumstances of her death, but for the life she lived. We remember the smiles she shared, the moments she created, and the love she gave to those around her. Her memory will continue to live on through the stories told by family and friends, through the lives she touched, and through the countless people who will forever carry her in their hearts.

As her loved ones navigate the difficult days, weeks, and months ahead, may they find strength in one another, comfort in cherished memories, and peace in the support of their community.

In loving memory of Jodi Tianna Bunn.

Though your journey on earth ended far too soon, your spirit and memory will never be forgotten. You will be deeply missed, forever loved, and always remembered by those whose lives were made brighter because you were part of them.

Rest in peace, Jodi.
