Ryan Willis McFarland, 52, of Muscatine, Iowa, died on Monday, June 1, 2026, following a series of shootings that occurred at multiple locations throughout the city.
According to the Muscatine Police Department, officers responded to reports of gunfire in the 200 block of Park Avenue shortly after 12:20 p.m. Upon arrival, authorities discovered four individuals deceased inside a residence from apparent gunshot wounds.
As the investigation continued, McFarland was identified as the suspect in the incident. He was later located near the Riverfront Trail area suffering from a self-inflicted gunshot wound. Despite emergency response efforts, he was pronounced deceased at the scene.
Authorities later discovered additional victims at separate locations connected to the incident, bringing the total number of deceased individuals to seven, including McFarland.
Preliminary findings suggest the shootings stemmed from a domestic dispute, and investigators believe the victims were members of the suspect’s family. The investigation remains active and ongoing, with multiple agencies assisting in processing evidence and reviewing the circumstances surrounding the case.
