Beaumont Police, Sgt. Haley Morrow, 17-year-old Arin Antwine, District Chief Scott Wheat, Beaumont EMS, and BPD Detectives working with the Southeast Texas Violent Crime Task Force are all part of an ongoing investigation into a tragic triple shooting that has left one teenager dead and two others injured in the South Park neighborhood.
According to police, the violent incident unfolded shortly after 1:00 p.m. on Wednesday in the 4300 block of Ogden Avenue near Woodrow. Officers responded to reports of gunfire and arrived to a heartbreaking scene in the backyard of a residence, where three teenage victims were found suffering from gunshot wounds.
Beaumont EMS quickly transported all three victims to a nearby hospital for emergency treatment. Despite medical efforts, 17-year-old Arin Antwine succumbed to his injuries. The two other victims, both 15-year-old boys, survived and are being treated for non-life-threatening injuries.
Authorities have confirmed that all three victims were located in the backyard of a home when officers arrived, though details surrounding what led to the shooting remain under active investigation. Police have not released information regarding suspects or a possible motive at this time.
The shooting marks a deeply troubling moment for the city, coming just days after another deadly incident in Beaumont near an apartment complex on West Virginia Street. Officials say this is the second homicide in the city since Monday, raising growing concern about a recent wave of violent crime involving young people.
Sgt. Haley Morrow described the incident as another painful example of violence that continues to impact families and communities.
“It’s another example of senseless violence that doesn’t have to happen,” Morrow said. “It’s time to have tough conversations with kids. There’s almost always some kind of indicator that children are headed down the wrong path.”
District Chief Scott Wheat confirmed that emergency medical personnel responded rapidly and provided critical care before transporting the victims for further treatment.
As detectives continue to piece together what led to the shooting, BPD investigators are working closely with the Southeast Texas Violent Crime Task Force, reviewing evidence and following leads in an effort to identify those responsible.
Police are urging anyone with information to come forward, emphasizing that even small details could prove crucial in solving the case. Residents in the area are also being asked to check home surveillance systems for any footage that may assist investigators.
