In Loving Memory of Andrea Stawny and Sofie Stawny: Forever Remembered, Forever Loved

SPRINGFIELD, Mo. — Springfield police have identified the four family members involved in the tragic Lake Springfield incident that occurred on Sunday, June 14. Authorities named 19-year-old Andrea Stawny, 17-year-old Sofie Stawny, 40-year-old Taylor Stawny, who remains missing, and 12-year-old Aurelie Stawny, who was rescued from the water and has since been released from the hospital. The heartbreaking incident has prompted an extensive multi-agency search and recovery operation that remains ongoing.

According to the Springfield Police Department, Andrea Stawny and Sofie Stawny were recovered following several days of intensive search efforts in and around the Lake Springfield dam. Officials said Andrea was located on Tuesday approximately one-quarter mile downstream from the dam, while Sofie was found near the dam on Wednesday after emergency crews continued their coordinated recovery mission.

Authorities confirmed that the search continues for 40-year-old Taylor Stawny. More than 40 rescuers representing multiple agencies remain actively involved in the operation, searching by land, water, and air. Dive teams, boats, drones, and specialized search personnel have been deployed throughout the area as crews work tirelessly in hopes of locating the missing individual.

Police also reported that 12-year-old Aurelie Stawny survived the incident after being rescued from the spillway below the dam on Sunday. She was transported to a local hospital for medical treatment and has since been released. Officials confirmed that the family has been notified regarding the developments in the case.

During the investigation, detectives learned that the four individuals were together on the water in a kayak and two inflatable tubes that were connected at the time of the incident. Investigators continue to examine the sequence of events that led to the emergency and are working to determine exactly what occurred.
