Ryan Willis McFarland Identified in Multi-Scene Muscatine Homicide Investigation Involving Five Dead, Including Suspect in Apparent Self-Inflicted Shooting

The Muscatine Police Department is actively investigating a series of connected homicide incidents involving Ryan Willis McFarland, 52, of Muscatine, Iowa, which occurred on Monday, June 1, 2026, at multiple locations throughout the city.

At approximately 12:12 p.m., MUSCOM received a report of a shooting at 210 Park Avenue in Muscatine. Officers with the Muscatine Police Department, along with emergency medical personnel, were dispatched immediately to the scene.

Upon arrival, officers located four victims inside the residence. All four individuals had sustained gunshot wounds and were pronounced deceased at the scene. The area was secured, and investigators immediately began processing the scene and conducting preliminary witness interviews.

The adult male suspect was no longer on scene when officers arrived. He was later identified as Ryan Willis McFarland, 52, of Muscatine, Iowa. After an extensive search of the surrounding area, officers located McFarland on the Riverfront Trail near the pedestrian bridge. He was discovered with an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound.

Emergency responders and officers provided immediate medical aid; however, McFarland was subsequently pronounced deceased.

During the initial stages of the investigation, additional information was received indicating the possibility of further related victims. Officers conducted follow-up checks at additional locations as part of the ongoing inquiry.

As a result, investigators located an adult male deceased from an apparent gunshot wound inside a residence at 1509 Mill Street in Muscatine. In a separate development, officers also responded to a business at 808 Grandview Avenue, where they discovered another adult male deceased from an apparent gunshot wound.

Preliminary findings suggest the incidents stem from a domestic-related dispute. At this time, all victims are believed to be family members of the deceased suspect, Ryan Willis McFarland. Investigators are continuing efforts to confirm relationships and establish a full understanding of the circumstances surrounding each incident.

The Muscatine Police Department is being assisted in this ongoing investigation by the Muscatine Fire Department, the Muscatine County Sheriff’s Office, the Iowa State Patrol, and the Iowa Division of Criminal Investigation.

Authorities stress that the investigation remains active and ongoing. Detectives are continuing to process multiple crime scenes, analyze evidence, and conduct interviews with witnesses and individuals connected to the case.
