The Manistique community is mourning following the heartbreaking discovery of 39-year-old Mark Brooks of Manistique, who was found deceased near the Manistique East Breakwater Lighthouse after being reported missing earlier this week.
According to Michigan State Police, Mark Brooks’ body was recovered Wednesday night following an extensive search effort involving multiple agencies near the lighthouse area. The discovery prompted a significant law enforcement presence throughout the area, which was temporarily closed to the public as authorities conducted their investigation and search operations.
Police stated that the missing person investigation began on Tuesday, May 26, after concerns were raised regarding Mark Brooks’ whereabouts. Troopers reported that there were no immediate signs of suspicious circumstances surrounding his disappearance, and initial attempts to locate him were unsuccessful.
As investigators continued searching near the Manistique East Breakwater Lighthouse on Wednesday, authorities located personal belongings believed to belong to Brooks near the shoreline.
