In Loving Memory of Roger Bailey

PHILADELPHIA, Pa. — A tragic early morning crash in North Philadelphia has claimed the life of 60-year-old Roger Bailey, who later died at a local hospital after being critically injured in a multi-vehicle hit-and-run incident, according to police.

Authorities say Bailey was struck during a chain-reaction crash that occurred around 3:40 a.m. on the 2500 block of West Hunting Park Avenue on Monday.

Crash occurred during roadside assistance attempt

Investigators report that the incident began when a gray 2007 Ford Escape became disabled in the roadway. A 61-year-old woman driving a gray 2017 Subaru Forester stopped to assist by attempting to jumpstart the stalled vehicle.

Police said Roger Bailey was positioned between the two vehicles during the attempt to restart the disabled Escape when the situation turned deadly.

A gray 2004 Honda Pilot traveling westbound then struck the disabled Ford Escape. The impact caused a violent chain reaction, pushing the Escape forward into the Subaru Forester. Bailey was caught between the two vehicles and suffered critical injuries.

Driver fled scene and later arrested

According to officials, the 26-year-old female driver of the Honda Pilot fled the scene immediately after the crash, continuing westbound on West Hunting Park Avenue.

Police later located and apprehended the driver. Her identity has not yet been released, and authorities confirmed that charges are currently pending as the investigation continues.

The Crash Investigation Division is actively leading the case.
