A Texas community is mourning the heartbreaking loss of two women whose lives were tragically cut short in a devastating head-on collision Sunday afternoon in Lake Jackson.
According to the Texas Department of Public Safety, 57-year-old Tonja Brozozowski Potts of Hallettsville and 81-year-old Patricia Jan Brozozowski of West Columbia died following a two-vehicle crash at the intersection of State Highway 332 and County Road 680. The tragic accident has left family members, friends, and loved ones grieving an unimaginable loss while a young child continues to recover from serious injuries.
Troopers responded to the scene at approximately 1:44 p.m. after receiving reports of a major collision involving a black Chevrolet Tahoe and a silver Chrysler Pacifica. Preliminary findings indicate that the Chevrolet Tahoe was traveling eastbound on State Highway 332 when it crossed into the westbound lanes and collided head-on with the Chrysler Pacifica.
The impact of the crash was catastrophic. Emergency responders arrived quickly, but despite their efforts, Tonja Potts, who was driving the Chrysler, and passenger Patricia Jan Brozozowski were pronounced deceased at the scene.
A 9-year-old passenger riding in the Chrysler survived the collision but suffered serious injuries. The child was transported to Memorial Hermann Hospital for treatment, where loved ones continue to pray for recovery and healing.
Authorities said the driver of the Chevrolet, 33-year-old David Oscar Turner of Van Vleck, and passenger 35-year-old Khrystyna Leevon Hanner of Van Vleck were airlifted by Life Flight helicopter to St. Luke’s Hospital due to injuries sustained in the crash.
According to family members, Turner suffered a broken neck and remained in critical condition following the collision.
The tragic crash prompted a large emergency response involving the Texas Department of Public Safety, Brazoria County Sheriff’s Office, Lake Jackson Fire Department, and EMS personnel. State Highway 332 remained closed for approximately four hours as investigators documented the scene and worked to clear the roadway.
Officials noted that no occupants were ejected from either vehicle during the collision. At this time, investigators have not released information regarding what may have caused the Chevrolet Tahoe to cross into oncoming traffic. The crash remains under active investigation.
For those who knew and loved Tonja Potts and Patricia Jan Brozozowski, the tragedy is far more than a traffic statistic. It is the loss of two cherished lives, two beloved family members, and two women whose presence touched countless hearts throughout their communities.
